Living in Reno, Nevada, should not mean enduring long and arduous journeys just to visit family and friends in Zacatecas, Mexico. Unfortunately, that is the reality for many of us who have strong connections to this vibrant region.
Currently, our options are limited to either a four-hour drive to San Jose just to catch a direct flight to Zacatecas or facing a cumbersome journey of flying from Reno to Guadalajara and then taking a bus for another 5-6 hours to reach Zacatecas. These options are not just time-consuming and exhausting, but they also significantly limit our ability to connect with loved ones, celebrate important family events, or tend to urgent matters swiftly.
Zacatecas is home to a significant number of Reno residents’ relatives. The current lack of direct flight options impacts families, businesses, and our cultural connection. Reno and Zacatecas have vibrant communities and expanding this travel option can strengthen ties, support tourism, and accommodate the increasing number of travelers between these two cities.
The benefits of introducing a direct flight include saving time, reducing travel stress, and enhancing economic opportunities between the two regions. The convenience of a direct flight would encourage more frequent visits, strengthen tourism partnerships, and support local businesses both in Reno and Zacatecas.
