Establish British Saints' Days as Bank Holidays in the UK

Establish British Saints' Days as Bank Holidays in the UK
The Issue
As someone who deeply values our national heritage, I have been following the discussions around making St George's Day a bank holiday with great interest. However, I was disappointed to learn that this proposal was rejected due to concerns about an excess of bank holidays. Yet, there is a viable solution that would allow us to honor our saints without overloading the calendar - by replacing existing bank holidays that are less significant or on days when most businesses operate anyway.
It is not just about St George's Day. This petition proposes that each British saint's day should be recognized as a bank holiday in its respective country within the UK (for example; St George's Day would be a bank holiday in England only). This approach respects regional identities and traditions while also spreading out these new public holidays across different parts of the year and different parts of the UK.
Currently, there are eight permanent bank holidays in England and Wales, nine in Scotland, and ten in Northern Ireland (source: Gov.uk). It is worth noting that many countries have more public holidays than we do - for instance, Spain has 14 national public holidays (source: Spanish government website).
Let us celebrate our shared history and culture by honoring our saints with their own dedicated days off. Please sign this petition to show your support for establishing British Saints' Days as Bank Holidays within their respective regions of the UK.
