The city of Whitehorse, YT, Canada is home to a vibrant community of skateboarders, bikers, and scooter enthusiasts. However, the lack of an indoor skatepark means that these individuals are unable to pursue their passion during the long winter months. This not only hampers their ability to practice and improve but also deprives them of a key social and recreational outlet.

Research has shown that skateboarding can have numerous benefits for both physical health and mental wellbeing (source: Canadian Public Health Association). It encourages regular exercise, improves balance and coordination skills, fosters resilience and perseverance, and provides a sense of belonging among its practitioners.

Furthermore, cities across Canada such as Vancouver BC have seen positive impacts from establishing indoor skateparks including decreased youth crime rates (source: Vancouver Police Department).

By creating an indoor skatepark in Whitehorse we would be providing a safe space for our youth to engage in this beneficial activity year-round. We would also be acknowledging the importance of recreational facilities that cater to diverse interests within our community.
