Establish an ARFID clinic on the Isle of Man

Establish an ARFID clinic on the Isle of Man
The Issue
My step-daughter and step-son are battling with Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), a condition that is not only impacting their well-being but also affects numerous families on the Isle of Man. Across the Island, countless parents are grappling with the challenges of managing ARFID in their children, yet there is a void in specialised support services available to help them.
ARFID is a severe eating disorder that goes beyond mere picky eating; it can lead to nutritional deficiencies, other severe health issues, and significant emotional distress both for the children affected and their families. Currently, there are no dedicated facilities or medical professionals with a focus on ARFID on the Isle of Man, leaving us without the essential support and resources needed to handle this complex disorder effectively.
The implementation of an ARFID clinic on the Isle of Man would not only benefit those directly affected but also contribute to increased awareness and understanding about this disorder among healthcare professionals, educators, and the general community. Such a clinic would provide specialised assessment, therapy, and ongoing support tailored specifically to the needs of ARFID patients and their families.
With the rising awareness and identification of ARFID, it is vital for the Isle of Man to take action and ensure that families dealing with this disorder have access to the appropriate care and support within their community. An ARFID clinic would mean more than just support; it would be a beacon of hope for everyone combating this disorder.
I urge Manx Care to prioritise the establishment of an ARFID clinic. By working together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of many children and their families.
Sign this petition to support the establishment of an ARFID clinic and help us bring about much-needed resources to our island.
