Establish a Public Online Domestic Violence Offender Registry in England and Wales

Establish a Public Online Domestic Violence Offender Registry in England and Wales
The Issue
We are a group of six university students creating a campaign called 'Purple Peace', we are trying to raise more awareness on domestic violence and advocating more prevention services.
Domestic violence is one of the most common crimes in England and Wales, making it a critical issue that needs immediate attention. We are advocating for the creation of a publicly accessible online domestic violence offender registry. This tool will bring awareness to those who may unknowingly become involved with offenders, potentially preventing further instances of this crime.
According to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), an estimated 2.4 million adults aged 16 to 74 years experienced domestic abuse in England and Wales from March 2019 to March 2020 (ONS, Crime Survey for England and Wales). It's clear that this is not an isolated problem but rather a widespread issue affecting millions.
A public online registry would serve as an essential resource for individuals seeking information about potential partners or acquaintances. By having access to such information, people can make informed decisions about their relationships and take steps towards ensuring their safety.
We believe that transparency can play a significant role in reducing reoffending rates by holding perpetrators accountable for their actions while also providing potential victims with crucial knowledge they need to protect themselves.
Please join us in urging our government officials to establish this life-saving tool - sign our petition today!
