Establish a Pedestrian Bridge over the North Interstate 35 Frontage Road

The Issue

I am one of many who make the taxing, dangerous journey over the North Interstate 35 Frontage Road on a daily basis. For individuals who rely on their legs, and for those confined to wheelchairs, this trek can be perilous and time-consuming, often spanning over an hour. Moreover, as an individual diagnosed with epilepsy, such a strenuous ordeal, combined with Texas' sweltering heat, can potentially trigger a seizure, which adds a layer of health risk to an already burdensome commute.

Just as the dangers are real for me, they are for countless others who traverse this path daily. To reach the other side of the highway, we must venture down to either Rundberg or Anderson. This detour not only adds unnecessary time to our daily commutes but also poses hazards that can be mitigated if an alternative were provided.

My proposal: a pedestrian bridge over the North Interstate 35 Frontage Road. This solution provides a safer alternative; significantly reducing the time of crossing by an estimated 30 minutes or more. Ultimately promoting the well-being of the community both physically and mentally.

Building this bridge does not simply serve to alleviate personal difficulties, but it also addresses an urgent need within our Austin, Texas community. A safer and more time-efficient crossing solution would greatly benefit those who find themselves navigating this route daily.

We urge local policymakers and city council officials to seriously consider this proposition for a pedestrian bridge. It is not just a personal plea, but a call for community improvement and reassurance of the health and safety of Austin’s citizens. Please lend your voice to this important cause by signing this petition. Together, we can create a safer, more accessible Austin for all.
