In an era marked by a flood of information, it is vitally important that journalism – the cornerstone of a free society – upholds truth, integrity, and respect. Yet, we see instances of false journalism, misbehaviour, misconduct, invasion of privacy, false accusations, and premature verdict declarations occurring more frequently. These instances not only damage individual reputations but also undermine public trust in the media.

This problem is not isolated. Reporters Without Borders' 2020 World Press Freedom Index shows that disinformation is becoming a widespread phenomenon, with a global level of press freedom decreasing. We need action to address this issue, and a Journalism Council, which sets standards and guidelines for journalists—including paparazzi—could be a significant step towards this action.

Such a council would not only ensure that journalists abide by ethical standards, but it would also help restore public faith in journalism. This council could potentially be non-governmental and thus maintain the independence of the press.
