Benewah County, Idaho, and its surrounding areas are currently facing a critical shortage of full-time equine and cattle veterinarians. This lack of specialized veterinary care is detrimental to the health and well-being of our large animal population, which plays a significant role in our local economy. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), rural areas like ours are often underserved by vets specializing in large animals. This gap in services puts undue stress on farmers and ranchers who rely on these animals for their livelihoods. We believe that having access to a dedicated vet for equines and cattle is not just beneficial but essential for our community's sustainability. Therefore, we urge the local authorities to take immediate action towards recruiting or incentivizing such professionals to establish their practice here in Saint Maries, Idaho.
