Establish a Driftless National Park & Preserve in Southeast Minnesota

The Driftless Region is a distinctive geologic and cultural region in the Midwest in southeastern Minnesota. The area was not covered by ice during the last ice age, which resulted in the absence of the usual glacial deposits known as drift. The region is characterized by its dramatic hills, valleys, and karst topography with cold-water trout streams, caves, and rock outcroppings. The mosaic of different habitats in the Driftless promotes greater biodiversity; Many animals and plants are unique to the Midwest, often only found elsewhere on the continent or even nowhere else at all.

The Whitewater River Valley in southeast Minnesota is the largest protected land-based area in the Driftless, with around 30,000 acres of preserved land. When including surrounding public lands, this totals around 42,000 non-continuous protected acres.

This area alone is already larger than 12 other national parks.

By combining these protected lands, this continuous stretch would total at least 54,000 acres and effectively protect a natural expanse of the Driftless for generations to come, for threatened wildlife to flourish, and for the community to benefit economically from.

Here are the facts:

1. THE PARK IS A MONEY-MAKER

2. PEOPLE, HUNTING, & FARMING CAN STAY

3. MINNESOTA CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN

Please consider signing our petition to ask Minnesota to make a Driftless National Park & Preserve. With your help, we can protect a large swath of the Driftless for wildlife to thrive and for future generations to enjoy.
