As students of Richmond College, we are requesting the creation of a permanent prayer room on campus to accommodate the spiritual needs of the diverse student body, which includes many individuals who practice Islam and many different faiths.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the college for its continued support, particularly during Ramadan, where the administration has gone above and beyond in helping students find temporary spaces for prayer. The efforts to accommodate our needs have been greatly appreciated, and we recognize the college’s commitment to supporting students’ spiritual well-being.

That being said, at times students face significant challenges in finding a suitable space for prayer, and this issue occurs very frequently. Personally, I’ve had to pray under the stairs and in inconvenient places when no other space was available, and I’ve seen other students in similar situations. Unfortunately, there are instances when students are unable to pray altogether simply because there is no designated space. Outside of Ramadan, the lack of a consistent and permanent prayer room makes it harder for students to maintain their spiritual practices.

Moreover, as we continue to grow as a diverse and inclusive community, we feel that a permanent prayer room would help ensure that all students, regardless of their faith, have a consistent and dedicated space to fulfill their religious practices. A permanent, easily accessible prayer room would provide a peaceful environment where students can balance both their spiritual and academic commitments with ease.

We kindly request that the college consider providing this much-needed facility to support the diverse needs of its student body.
