Houghton, MI is a vibrant community with a growing population. Despite this growth, residents lack access to major electronics retailers such as Best Buy. This absence forces locals to travel long distances for their electronics needs or rely on online shopping which can be inconvenient and time-consuming. In addition, there are at least five small computer businesses and hundreds of hobbyists and even more tech enthusiasts in the region which could greatly benefit from a Best Buy location in Houghton.

According to the U.S Census Bureau, Houghton's population has grown by 8% since 2010 (source: U.S Census Bureau). With this increasing population and the city's strategic location in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, it is an ideal location for a Best Buy store. The establishment of a Best Buy will not only provide convenience to residents but also stimulate local economy through job creation and increased consumer spending. We urge Best Buy Co., Inc., to consider opening a store in Houghton, Michigan.

Personally, I run one such computer business and I am a hobbyist of technology. I source all of my parts from Amazon et al, and if you know how slow those parts can arrive, you know it feels like they're constantly on backorder. Having a Best Buy store in driving distance could perhaps get some of those parts in same-day. It also gives people another store to go to aside from Walmart, which isn't an electronics-driven store, and having an electronics-dedicated store will benefit at least half of the residents in the Copper Country, bringing in hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars per year, making back the startup cost in a few short years.

There is also an engineering school in Houghton which is a 4-year university claiming about 8 thousand students in attendance. Electrical and Computer engineers alike make up a large portion of those 8,000 students and both majors could heavily benefit from a Best Buy in Houghton. Plus, the 8,000 enrolled students could bring in thousands more in profit margins.

Houghton (and the entire Keweenaw Region as a whole) have shown significant increases in tourism and population with no signs of slowing down any time soon. Any profits made at the store will only ever increase, should Best Buy pursue a store in the area.
