Establish 50:50 Shared Child Care and Residence Law Immediately in the UK
The Issue
As a witness to the unreasonable burden and heartbreak many parents face due to their lack of control over child care arrangements, I implore you to consider this petition. Time and time again, we see parents who are powerless, unable to prevent care arrangements forced upon them by their co-parent that they not only disagree with, but that deeply impact their role and access to their own children. Therefore, the objective of our petition is to establish a law that allows parents who are separated to assume 50:50 shared child care and residence immediately from the point of separation as their standard rights in the United Kingdom.
According to a report from the Department for Work and Pensions, approximately 2.5 million separated families in the UK faced conflicts over child care arrangements in 2018. It is time to bring clarity and fairness to these situations. By implementing 50:50 shared care and residence as a default option, we will ensure both parents get equal time and involvement in their children's lives, thus promoting the welfare and emotional stability of our children, right from the outset.
Act now and join us in advocating for this much-needed change to protect parents’ right to shared care, and to ensure the best interests of our children. Please, sign this petition.
