You might like to see this photograph of the earlier wooden bridge at Boxted built sometime after 1835. From Essex Records Office we know that this was the wooden bridge that then fell into disrepair resulting, in 1896, to George Double's tender being accepted for the sum of £927 to build a steel girder bridge here.
From the men's clothes the photograph might have been taken around the 1880s or 1890s. Island Cottage is seen in the background beyond the bridge.
