We, the undersigned members of the Eritrean community and supporters of justice, express our deep concerns regarding the recent actions of EriSat. EriSat, a media organization, has taken legal action against a dedicated volunteer journalist, Henok Tekle, who played a crucial role in the growth and success of the organization.
Journalist Henok Tekle not only contributed significant time and effort to support EriSat but also generously donated hundreds of thousands of dollars, contributing to the organization's financial stability and reach. He was instrumental in creating a strong viewership support system that helped EriSat gain traction and credibility within the community.
EriSat claims to be an independent media organization serving the interests of the Eritrean people. However, it is evident that a substantial portion of the support for EriSat came from Eritrean justice seekers, many of whom were associated with Yiakl. These individuals believed in EriSat's mission and contributed to its cause under the belief that it truly represented their interests.
Furthermore, EriSat has portrayed itself as a public organization dedicated to providing a platform for the voices of the people. This representation has misled many individuals into supporting EriSat financially and morally. However, recent revelations have shown that EriSat was governed by a select few individuals who failed to uphold their own organizational bylaws.
One key member who was part of EriSat's governance has since resigned, shedding light on the internal workings of the organization. It has become clear that EriSat's claims of transparency and public service were not fully realized in practice.
Most alarmingly, EriSat is now utilizing the hard-earned donations of Eritrean justice seekers to pursue legal action against an Eritrean journalist, a move that goes against the principles of fairness, justice, and community solidarity that we value.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, demand the following:
1. Immediate cessation of any litigation initiated by EriSat against the Eritrean justice seekers Journalist Henok Tekle
2. Accountability and transparency from EriSat regarding its governance, financial practices, and decision-making processes.
3. Many mediators who spoke with board members continuously mention board members request of 50,000 monetary compensations as a precondition to withdraw their lawsuit. We will not tolerate any such demand and even if you forced Henok to pay any amount for your reckless legal financial expense, we will take every action necessary including a legal suit against you. You must drop the lawsuit without any precondition or request for financial compensation.
4. Implementation of new governance structures that ensure accountability, transparency, and community representation.
5. Restitution of funds misused by EriSat to pursue legal action against the Eritrean journalist.
6. A public apology from EriSat to the Eritrean justice seekers community and the journalist targeted by the litigation.
In seeking justice for the volunteer, the donors, and the broader Eritrean community, we urge EriSat to rectify its course of action and align its practices with the principles it professes to uphold.
In the absence of the above demand, we justice seekers have no option but to take legal action against ERISAT and its board members.
1- We will report to the IRS for mishandling of public money and embezzlement against the organization's objectives.
2- We will report to the IRS for the revocation of its non-profit organization status as it contradicts the IRS rules governing non-profit organizations.
3- We will take legal actions against individual board members, namely Dr. Saba Tesfayohannes, Dr. Haddish Hagos, Mr. Tewelde Estifanos, Mr. Abdu Abdela, Mr. Ismael Gabayta, and Mr. Amanuel Yitebark for recklessness, funds mismanagement, and fraud.
