Stricter laws on Drunk Driving crashes resulting in death in Indiana !!!!!

I am writing this to petition a change in the law regarding drunk driving crashes resulting in death. Currently our law is : causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a ACE of .08 or more. (9-30-5-5) The penalties are 2-12 years prison time and up to a $10,000 fine. But as little as house arrest or probation !!!!
i believe the punishment for this crime should be harsher as it does result in the death of an innocent.
The intoxicated individual(s) are actively making a decision to drive under the influence. This crime should be held to same standards as manslaughter, where as the individual knowingly committed a crime resulting in the death of another. These individuals know they are taking a risk. We are routinely taught the implications of this very decision. These individuals should now pay the true debt of the risk they so casually accepted.
There are millions of families impacted by this on a regular basis and we can no longer stand by and accept this as normal. We need to consider the lives of the victims as those they leave behind in this crime.
I would like to see this law truly impact BAC’s over .15, as they should receive a harsher sentence. There should be mandatory time served ! They should be held accountable for their actions.
In today’s society public transportation has became wildly available, the world has presented more than enough opportunities to avoid driving intoxicated. There is no longer any excuse to allow this crime to go unpunished.
The victims families should be allowed justice for those that they have lost to this senseless crime.
My children’s father, Zachary “Hootie” Flick , was killed in a drunk driving ATV crash August 2,2020. The driver was his Father-in-law. He was driving intoxicated well over the legal limit (BAC .189) . He made not one but TWO horrible decisions that night. He choose to get behind the wheel and drive and he was traveling to fast to avoid hitting Zach.
My young children and all of Hootie’s family have suffered greatly from this . Many families suffer from this ! My children will never get to share their joys in life with their dad. They will never get to spend time with him ever again. We lost a father, a son , a grandson, a nephew, a brother and a cousin all in that horrible moment . This is life long ! I would like to see the laws changed In order to maybe lessen the amount of DUI with fatalities.
I think a harsher punishment would make more people think twice before getting behind the wheel of any vehicle while under the influence.
