Hi Neighbors,

We won the battle with Project Hope, with everyone's involvement the motel conceded due to the neighborhood's safety issues.

Now, the city wants to turn this motel into a Project Home Key location.

We applaud the city’s effort to house our vulnerable homeless brothers and sisters, but housing the homeless at the Travelodge permanently on Normandie and 186th (18606 Normandie Avenue) presents some concerns without proper vetting and oversight.

The motel, labeled as being part of a commercial/industrial area, is nestled in between over 4,500 homes. The city cannot commit to a vetting process that will keep out drug users or folks with mental health issues that can potentially turn violent or increase theft, burglary, and robberies in our neighborhood. The city also cannot guarantee that they will house the truly needy that will integrate well with our neighborhood such as elderly and families with small children. There is also no guarantee of increased LAPD presence for our already resource-constrained police department in the area, which can take up to 2 hours or more for police to respond to an urgent call.

Without appropriate vetting and oversight, it is challenging for our neighbors to support this project coming to our neighborhood. We have many elderly folks and families in the community and its surrounding areas that will be impacted by increased crimes, assaults, drug use, and vagrancy.

Please sign this petition to get rid of that motel for good since we know it's been a point of contention for over a decade!
