Dear Angels Flight Friends and Neighbors, Thank you for your continued support of Angels Flight Railway. Yesterday, street artist Wild Life, whose witty sculptural commentary on urban decay is always worth watching, turned his attention to our beloved funicular. On the pillar at the bottom of the steps beside the still-stalled landmark is a lifelike California Condor casting a curious gaze over at the rail cars. Beneath her, an official-looking placard compares the endangered avian population to this landmark of old Los Angeles. (See the artwork: https://www.facebook.com/groups/downtownla/permalink/1348303455202285 ) Just a few weeks ago, on one of our free monthly LAVA history walking tours, an attendee remarked upon how unfortunate it was that there is no posted signage to inform tourists or locals why Angels Flight isn’t running and what they can do to help. (Walking tour video: http://www.lavatransforms.org/video/broadway-on-my-mind-15/ ) We are grateful that Wild Life cared enough to make the lingering problem of an inoperable Angels Flight into a fresh work of art that will get people talking, and thinking, about the work’s hopeful message: “All is not lost.” Why not stop by and see for yourself? What's next for Angels Flight? The non-profit board continues its fundraising to cover ongoing insurance and upkeep costs, and is working with engineers on a design for a track-side walkway as required by the state regulators. We'll let you know when there's more news to share. Viva Angels Flight! Kim Cooper & Richard Schave Esotouric / Angels Flight Friends and Neighbors Society
