Erect a Permanent Statue of Sir Tom Jones in His Hometown of Pontypridd
 

To: Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Pontypridd Town Council 

We, the undersigned, call on local authorities to officially commission and erect a full-sized bronze statue of Sir Tom Jones in his hometown of Pontypridd. 
Born Thomas John Woodward in Treforest, Sir Tom has spent over six decades captivating audiences worldwide, selling over 100 million records, and keeping the spirit of the Welsh Valleys alive on the global stage. Pontypridd’s most famous son, an international superstar, and a towering figure in music history. 

While other icons are celebrated across the UK, Sir Tom's home town currently lacks a major, central monument dedicated to his unparalleled career. Erecting a landmark statue would: 
Honour a Living Legend: Recognise his incredible dedication to music, charity, and his lifelong pride in his Welsh roots.
Boost Local Tourism: Provide a major destination point for music fans from all over the world, bringing much-needed footfall to local businesses and town center traders. 
Celebrate Heritage: Create an inspiring cultural anchor for the community, showing future generations that a "voice from the valleys" can reach the entire world. 

As Pontypridd looks toward major future cultural milestones, there is no better time to immortalise the Voice of the Valleys where his story first began. We urge the council to work with local artists, fans, and community groups to approve and fund a fitting monument to Sir Tom Jones.

Potential public locations in the town where the statue could be erected: Our beautiful Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Market Square or the New steps opposite Pontypridd Railway Station looking south towards his home village of Treforest. 

The statue, would be  a beacon of pride for residents and fans alike, would also enhance tourism in our cherished town—a fitting gateway for visitors exploring the history and beauty of the Rhondda Valley. Such an installation would not only celebrate Tom's achievements but also invigorate local businesses and encourage cultural investment.
