Eradicate the Unlawful Pre-Paid Electricity Service Fee by City Power in Johannesburg

The Issue

I reside on a property equipped with 6 Pre-Paid Meters, each burdened with the outrageous service fee of R200 imposed by City Power. Multiply this by the number of meters, and City Power profits R1200 monthly just off our property alone. Contrast this with other properties which possess only one meter and are expected to pay just R200.

Moreover, amidst this financial strain, we now have to budget a minimum of R500 monthly specifically for electricity, a significant increase from the prior budget of R200. This illegal service fee, combined with the nearly 15% rise in electricity fees, creates an unbearable financial burden for many.

Questionably, despite this proposal having been rejected within the city council, it is being thrust upon us under the questionable guidance of corrupt politicians from the ANC, EFF, PA and Al-Jahama. Also, when it was brought up at the IPD Meeting, it was again rejected and these Corrupt Councilors still implimented it.

This scenario isn't only affecting me but stands as a significant pressure point for numerous residents suffering similar circumstances across Johannesburg. It's an added weight that nobody asked for, and certainly nobody can afford.

By signing this petition, we are making a joint stand against the unlawful and unfair financial imposition set by City Power in Johannesburg. We demand the removal of this unauthorised service fee and call for transparency in future policy implementations. Raise your voice, make your struggles heard, and support us in fighting back against this economic injustice. Please, sign the petition today.

What we want are 1 of 2 things from the Mayor, MMC of EISD and City Power:

1: They completely remove that service fee and include it in the general rates and taxes, where it is meant to be implimented.

or

2: Allow us, as the paying clients, to elect to have our prepaid metters supplied by another service provider, like Eskom, where there is no service fee applied.
