As a concerned citizen of Toronto, I am witnessing the detrimental effects of hate within our public school system. This issue is not just personal to me but affects the very fabric of our society. Our children, who are the future pillars of this democratic country, are being exposed to hate and intolerance at a very formative age. This is shaping their perspectives and attitudes in ways that hinder their growth as tolerant and understanding citizens.

Within the Toronto District School Board, we are witnessing a tolerance for hateful, bullying, and threatening behaviour resulting in a dramatic rise of overt anti-semitism.  The TDSB and the Board of Trustees, either passively or actively, are supporting hateful behaviour by some of its supervisors, staff, teachers, and administrators.  The TDSB and the Board of Trustees, through indifference of acquiescence, are tolerating virulent anti-Israel, anti-Zionist, and anti-Jewish activity to take place within the schools and properties of the TDSB.

This tolerance of hateful behaviour stands in opposition to the TDSB Mission: "To enable all students to reach high levels of achievement and well-being and to acquire the knowledge, skills and values they need to become responsible, contributing members of a democratic and sustainable society."

We believe that every child deserves an education free from fear and prejudice. We urge the Toronto District School Board to immediately implement comprehensive anti-hate policies within schools - policies that promote respect for diversity and inclusivity while punishing any form of hate, discrimination or bullying.

Hate cannot be tolerated in the TDSB.
