Female genital mutilation or cutting is still a common practice in communities all around the world, even after UN efforts to eradicate it. The traditional impact and value given to this practice in these communities avoids the proper recrimination of practicing this rite, which not only promotes a gender-based discrimination and degradation but also vulnerates basic human rights and threatens the idea of a sane and equal society. The inhumane practice consists of cutting parts of a woman's genitals as part of a traditional rite with the belief that it prepares a woman for marriage.
