Equitable Funding for Solano County Nonprofits

Equitable Funding for Solano County Nonprofits
The Issue
The Benicia Community Foundation (BCF) is deeply concerned about the significant disparities in philanthropic funding affecting our local nonprofit sector. A recent United Way study has highlighted a troubling reality: despite Solano County accounting for nearly 6 percent of the Bay Area’s population, we receive less than 1 percent of the region’s nonprofit funding. This imbalance has serious consequences for vital organizations like BCF and others that serve our community.
This petition aims to raise awareness of this critical issue and calls upon corporations, community foundations, private foundations, family foundations, public charities, and individual donors to increase their philanthropic contributions to nonprofits in Solano County.
Our local nonprofits work tirelessly to provide essential services and drive positive change within Solano County. However, the persistent underfunding of our sector hampers our ability to meet the needs of those we serve. These systemic discrepancies are not just numbers—they represent a barrier to the growth and prosperity of our region. Achieving more equitable funding is crucial for enabling our nonprofits to expand and enhance the critical services they offer to our community members.
Addressing this issue requires concerted action from both the public and private sectors. We are calling on all Solano County residents to join us in advocating for change. By gathering signatures for our petition, we aim to raise awareness of these disparities and urge local officials and lawmakers to re-evaluate their financial allocations to better support Solano County’s nonprofits. We also encourage corporations, public charities, community foundations, family foundations, private foundations, and individual donors to consider realigning their contributions to more accurately reflect the needs of our community.
This petition is about more than just achieving funding parity; it’s about ensuring that no one in our community is left behind. Solano County is in need, and together, we can build a better, more equitable future for our nonprofit sector.
We urge you—whether you are involved in health, education, cultural, or political spheres within Solano County—to stand with us in this fight for fair funding. Please sign the petition and let your voice be heard in advocating for the funding equity that our county deserves.
