The Issue

The Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS-95) was designed to provide financial support to retirees, yet the reality is far from this promise. With mounting inflation and rising medical costs, ₹2,000 does not stretch far. Research indicates that the cost of living has increased significantly over the past decade, further eroding the purchasing power of pensioners.

According to the National Statistical Office, the consumer price index for industrial workers increased by approximately 7.3% over the past year. This highlights the dire need for an increase in pensions to help retirees manage these rising costs. It is high time for the government to revise the pension plan and provide a safety net that ensures basic dignity in retirement years.

We propose a realistic and necessary change: introducing a minimum pension of ₹9,000 for all EPS-95 pensioners. This amount aligns more closely with the current economic situation and can significantly improve the quality of life for pensioners. This increase will not only cover basic expenses but also ensure that the elderly can afford healthcare without sacrificing other needs.

The government has the power to make this change—by reassessing the pension structure under EPS-95, revisiting fund allocations, or restructuring investment strategies, a minimum pension of ₹9,000 can become a reality. Additionally, a reassessment of the fund's allocations could be a sustainable approach to ensuring this increase does not impose undue stress on the pension system.

I am reaching out to you with the hope that you understand the urgency and necessity of this adjustment. Together, we can pressurize the policymakers to act. We must take a stand for dignity, respect, and a decent life for all pensioners.

Please join me in demanding this essential change by signing this petition. Your support can make a tremendous difference for thousands of elderly individuals like myself. Let's create a future where our senior citizens are cared for, respected, and valued.
