A company by the name of  Chunxing Corporation Pty Ltd is proposing to establish a Used Lead Acid Battery (ULAB) recycling plant in Hazelwood North to process 50,000 tonnes per year of spent lead acid batteries. Their advertisement advises that they selected the Morwell land due to correct zoning and a good buffer zone from residential areas but the site is less than 2kms from a local primary school.

Regardless of the supposed "world's best practice" the company suggests will be utilised there are certain environmental concerns that must be taken into considerations, in particular the air emissions and their management of waste water on-site.

Chunxing Corporation is currently preparing their Works Approval Application (WAA) and a major part of this application is community engagement.
