Stop the city Permit to allow more pollution and smell in East Vancouver.

Stop the city Permit to allow more pollution and smell in East Vancouver.

The Issue

West Coast Reduction is applying for an amendment to their current permit to the City of Vancouver to INCREASE the amount of pollution they are allowed to emit into East Vancouver to be valid until June 5, 2036 - for 15 YEARS!!

The fact that West Coast Reduction is looking to INCREASE the pollutants listed below (which all have significant NEGATIVE environmental and health impacts), while East Vancouver is increasing its population (thus increasing the number of people impacted by these contaminants) is concerning.

Current Contaminants West Coast Reduction is looking to increase the following pollutants (with links to their corresponding health & environmental impacts):

  1. Ammonia Pollution - from 1.692 tonnes/year to 2.165 tonnes/year
  2. Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) Pollution - from 52.782 tonnes/year to 67.534 tonnes/year
  3. Sulphur Oxides (SOx) Pollution - 1.082 tonnes/year to 67.534 tonnes/year
  4. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) - 2.901 tonnes/year to 3.712 tonnes/year
  5. Methane Emissions - 1.222 tonnes/year to 1.563 tonnes/year
  6. Total Increase in Particulate Matter POLLUTION - 42.555 tonnes/year to 49.899 tonnes/year
