Gandhi ji said that 'The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it's animals are treated' but we can see how many animals have already been killed and would be killed as it's been allowed by our Environment Minister declaring them as 'vermin' because they are destroying the crops. I understand the plight of farmers but it cannot be solved through a barrel of gun. There are other means like adequate fencing, noisemakers, repelling animals naturally from farms through the use of chilli plants which can be adopted. We fail to understand that we are the ones stealing their homes by cutting down trees. When animals are hunted some will be shot several times causing tremendous pain but many others escape with one gunshot and die later slowly in unimaginable agony. Provisions to allow wild animals to be killed can also be misused to the illegal wildlife trade. Environment minister has allowed to kill elephants in Bengal, monkeys in Himachal, wildboar in uttarakhand, nilgai in Bihar. An outright ban should be put on this so that justice remains blind to race, colour, religion or species.
