Ensure UCF College of Nursing holds traditional Pinning Ceremony

Ensure UCF College of Nursing holds traditional Pinning Ceremony
The Issue
Nursing is considered one of the most trusted professions, yet as we have seen in recent news reports, we are often underpaid, overworked, and frequently face assault by patients. Despite these challenges, we persevere. We have made numerous sacrifices to attend the University of Central Florida's College of Nursing program, fully committing ourselves to the arduous training required to become proficient and compassionate nurses.
The Pinning Ceremony is a revered tradition, celebrating the transition from student to professional nurse. This ceremony is not just an event; it is a rite of passage honoring our commitment, hard work, and dedication to caring for others. It is a time-honored affair, dating back centuries, where millions of new nurses have taken part.
At this pivotal moment in our lives, we are requesting acknowledgment in a way that befits our accomplishments. Instead of a traditional Pinning Ceremony, the current plan is to transform this occasion into an open house, reducing a meaningful celebration into a walk through classrooms with little recognition of our efforts.
We believe that the Pinning Ceremony is an essential tradition that provides a sense of fulfillment, acknowledging the countless hours spent studying, practicing, and preparing for our roles in healthcare. Furthermore, as future registered nurses, it is important for us to experience the pride and joy that comes with this recognition, not just for ourselves, but for our families and friends who have supported us along the way.
Therefore, we call upon the administration of UCF's College of Nursing to reinstate the traditional Pinning Ceremony for all future graduations. By restoring this event in its traditional form, UCF can upholding a cherished custom and honor the achievements of its nursing graduates appropriately.
