Nurses, midwives and other healthcare professionals may wish to voluntarily remove themselves from the register during a Fitness to Practice investigation as they have no intension of practicing in the profession again.
The NMC is right to be cautious as some unscrupulous may decide to do so as a means to avoid going through process
However if a HCP can show good evidence as to their intensions surely this is their right
It continues to be very difficult for nurses and midwives to voluntarily remove themselves prior to a investigation concluding - causing ongoing trauma, especially if referrals are malicious and the registrant wishes to leave the profession with a "clear name"
Surely there should be better mediation to reach the right conclusion for everyone but also to respect privacy and dignity
It would also avoid ++ costs that it costs for process to continue
