As the holidays approach and the spirit of giving fills the air, I’d like to address a couple of comments I've received about the GoFundMe fundraiser to help open a shelter in India.

Please note the AAFT rescue does not get any money donated to the change.org site. If you would like to donate, please use the GoFundMe link.

  1. “Oh that’s so sad but it’s India. It’s just one of those things”

When I first started rescue work in India I had such crippling anxiety that I told myself I could never go back there again. But I changed that line of thought to “I need to do something about this”. I love my strays as much as I love my own puppies. The stray situation in India seems hopeless but there are people working tirelessly to make things better. Promoting and donating to this fundraiser is me doing my part to help so it’s no longer just one of those things :(

    2. “Is this rescue legit?”

    They are a registered NGO

You can check out their website and see their work on their Instagram page (*Warning: Graphic Content*)

During my 5 weeks of volunteering with them, I watched and helped them treat countless stray animals on the side of the road. My friend was so impressed by what they do and their desperate need for a shelter, he decided to help them because fundraising is not their strong suit.

They never ask for money to treat animals, as it could discourage people from reaching out when they encounter an injured or sick stray. This is why, after 17 years of doing this work, they’ve still been unable to build a shelter.

Here's a video of the land they've looked at to open a shelter. It is away from busy roads and residential areas, ensuring there won't be any noise complaints. Whenever I get passionate about something, it takes over me. This is one of those things. The least I can do is try to help. We have a very strong community here. Please consider helping them make a home for sick and injured strays.

If you can, please help the strays by donating and sharing the GoFundMe

Wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday season, filled with warmth and love.

    With my deepest gratitude,
    Aliesha
