Ensure Safeguarding Concerns Are Heard

Ensure Safeguarding Concerns Are Heard
The Issue
My sister was neglected, and carers lied about it. It was a dreadful situation that we had to endure, and the only way we could prove the negligence was through CCTV footage. They lied on their statements to back each other up. They also waited 20 minutes to call 999 even though Karen had epilepsy, peg feed tube and a tracheostomy. They told the 999 call handler she fell half a foot from the back of the vehicle whilst in her wheelchair… she fell more like 3.5-4 feet. All brakes were not applied to her wheelchair and the carer wasn’t even holding both handlebars. They were seen washing away the blood on the cctv.
1. My sister could’ve had a seizure due to THE SEVERE trauma to her head. She had a history of also stopping breathing during a seizure as she had epilepsy requiring ambibag
2. She had a tracheostomy and could’ve become plugged requiring immediate deep suction
3.She could’ve gone into shock
4 she had a natural resting high heart rate and was at cardiac arrest risk because of this
YET NO AMBULANCE WAS CALLED IMMEDIATELY
Yet when we complained the company turned on us and still employed them.
safeguarding lcc didn’t want to know. The police didn’t want to know. Our complaint wasn’t dealt with appropriately …. EXCUSES MADE . The ‘carers’ refused to watch the cctv… SAYS IT ALL!! The company didn’t inform other families of the incident until months later. BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT PEOPLE THINKING THAT THE INCIDENT CONTRIBUTED TO HER PASSING AWAY! It is heartbreaking to see how vulnerable individuals are often left without the care and attention they deserve, and their guardians' concerns are sidelined or ignored.
Every day, countless families face similar challenges. They entrust the safety and well-being of their loved ones to caretakers, hoping that they will be treated with dignity and respect. Yet, when safeguarding concerns arise, these families struggle to have their voices heard.
Statistics show that over 400,000 cases of neglect and abuse are reported annually in care homes across the world, many of which go uninvestigated due to lack of evidence or brushed aside by those in power. These figures highlight a grave injustice in the system designed to protect our most vulnerable.
To ensure proper action is taken, we need a robust mechanism that mandates thorough examination of all safeguarding reports, accompanied by transparent communication and accountability from caregiving institutions. CCTV usage should be promoted in care facilities to provide unbiased evidence in disputes. Training programs for carers must emphasize ethical responsibility and the importance of safeguarding reporting.
Governments and policymakers need to establish stricter guidelines and oversight on caregiving services to ensure these concerns are addressed proactively rather than reactively. This can only be achieved through coordinated efforts at the community, regional, and national levels.
By signing this petition, you stand with those whose voices have been muted. Demand that safeguarding concerns not only be heard but actively prioritized and effectively addressed. Let's fight for a system where every family can feel assured that their loved ones are truly cared for. MY SISTER HAS SINCE PASSED AWAY AND WE REFUSE TO GIVE UP OUR FIGHT FOR JUSTICE FOR OUR GIRL KK
