Ensure Safe and Comfortable Transportation for Auburn City School Students

Ensure Safe and Comfortable Transportation for Auburn City School Students
The Issue
My kids and other parents kids experienced an incredibly distressing and uncomfortable situation while riding the school bus. As a concerned parent, I am deeply troubled by the lack of air conditioning on Auburn City School buses, especially considering the extreme heat conditions we often face in Auburn, AL 36830
My kids endured over 30 minutes on a sweltering bus with a heat index of 100 degrees Fahrenheit. When temperatures reach 100 degrees, the internal temperature of a school bus can exceed 125 degrees. When they finally arrived home, they were visibly exhausted and distressed. Their clothes were completely damp from sweat, their face was beet red, and they even felt nauseous and had headache... all signs of heat exhaustion. No kid should ever have to go through that.
We have had our bus drivers in extreme heat all week long. We’ve had parents call and say when their kids are getting off the bus they are just really fatigued and had heat rash.
Our school system should take priority and shift some funds around to help our kids stay cool and healthy and safe and our school bus drivers as well.
If we have the technology and the funds and the resources I don’t understand why we can’t implement those.
By signing this petition today, we urge Auburn City School authorities to prioritize student safety and well-being by mandating that all buses be equipped with functioning air conditioning systems. This crucial investment will not only ensure comfortable transportation but also mitigate health risks associated with extreme temperatures during our very hot summers.
Let us come together as a community to protect our children's physical well-being while they travel between home and school each day. Join me in demanding that Auburn City School takes immediate action to require all buses to have air conditioning systems installed.
Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, more comfortable environment for our students.
