Ensure Parental Input in Children's Healthcare Decisions
The Issue
I am creating this petition on behalf of “ASHER JAREAM JOHNSON” i became a mother to him 06/12/2018 i lost him 10/06/2018 3 months after birth, as some may know a mother losing a child is unbearable nonstop pain ! all these years i’ve constantly sat beating myself up wondering … asher death was determined “SIDS” i never could believe it because in my heart as a mother something didnt sit right and that never sat right. upon his death asher seen many doctors for several different reasons and one being a “WEEK” before his death he was diagnosed with pneumonia which i had to fight with doctors to find out because they kept saying “ITS NOTHING WRONG” but again as a mother i knew something was off , previous doctor’s visits before that i complained about him shaking consistently and uncontrollably DOCTORS STATED “it wasn’t nothing” and i trusted them ! i now have my miracle baby which he was born 05/06/2021 and a few months after birth he started shaking consistently and uncontrollably this time i was more aware and demanded doctors look into it because i couldn’t lose another child, at this point i had waited and watched and recorded his episodes LUCKILY, my son was diagnosed with epilepsy and infantile spasms i was told many times “im glad you catch them when you did because some seizures goes unnoticed and can cause death” over the months i felt haunted and felt bad as a mom because i didn’t do anything for “ASHER” i am here now just wanting to raise awareness because PARENTS KNOW THEIR KIDS they know when things are off and when something is wrong DOCTORS NEED TO LISTEN no matter how much experience or education doctors have as PARENTS WE KNOW ! so ,
We, concerned parents and caregivers, call upon medical authorities and policymakers to recognize the vital role parents play in their children's healthcare decisions. We urge you to implement regulations that require doctors to actively listen to parents' concerns, insights, and preferences regarding the health and needs of "their" children.
Parents are the primary advocates for their children's well-being. They possess invaluable knowledge about their child's medical history, unique traits, behaviors, and individual needs. However, many parents feel unheard or dismissed by healthcare professionals when it comes to making important decisions about their child's health.
Research consistently demonstrates that involving parents in medical decision-making positively impacts patient outcomes. A study published in Pediatrics found that parental involvement leads to better adherence to treatment plans and improved overall satisfaction with care. By recognizing the expertise of both doctors and parents as complementary forces rather than opposing ones, we can enhance our children's healthcare experiences, and stop deaths
Unfortunately, numerous reports indicate instances where parental input has been disregarded or minimized by medical professionals. This lack of collaboration not only undermines trust but also hampers effective diagnosis and treatment strategies for our children.
By requiring doctors to genuinely listen to parents' concerns during consultations or when discussing treatment options for their child:
1) We can foster a more inclusive approach where doctors consider all available information before making critical decisions.
2) Parents will feel respected as partners in their child's care journey.
3) Doctors will benefit from valuable insights provided by those who know the child best.
4) The doctor-parent relationship will be strengthened through open communication channels.
5) Ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for our precious little ones.
We acknowledge that doctors possess extensive medical knowledge gained through years of education and experience. However, it is crucial not to overlook the significance of parental input which can provide essential context beyond clinical observations alone.
Together with your support, we can ensure that doctors actively listen to parents and involve them as valued contributors in their child's healthcare decisions. Sign this petition to advocate for regulations that prioritize collaborative decision-making, benefiting both medical professionals and the well-being of our children.
I DONT WANT MONEY , I WANT AWARENESS !
