Ensure hospitals provide meals for all mums or dads who are formula feeding their baby.
The Issue
Imagine being in a hospital with your seriously ill baby on breathing support monitors ,overwhelmed with worry , anxiety and stress , only to be told you aren't entitled to a meal because you're formula feeding instead of breastfeeding. This is the unfortunate situation I found myself in just recently when my baby girl was in intensive care fighting for her life.
When my daughter was admitted to critical care, every moment was a battle not only for her health but also for my ability to be there for her. Hungry and exhausted, I requested a meal from the hospital. To my shock, I was refused because I wasn't breastfeeding. Why should a mother's choice of how to feed her baby determine whether she can be fed herself when in such a critical / stressful and very upsetting situation?
Many hospitals across the UK only provide meals to mothers breastfeeding their babies, leaving those who formula feed to fend for themselves nutritionally, at a time when they need energy and strength the most. Why should any mum, already facing immense emotional and physical strain, have to worry about being fed while caring for her seriously ill child not being able to leave her daughter as no mother could.
This policy is not only outdated but discriminates against formula-feeding mothers who are doing their very best in difficult circumstances I was a breast feeding mum but sadly my baby wouldn’t take and needed formula to be feed . It's time for hospitals to recognise that all mothers, regardless of feeding choices, deserve meals and support when they are in the hospital with their critically ill children not everyone has a village or support around them.
By signing this petition, you're showing your support for a change in policy to ensure that all mothers are provided meals when their babies are in the hospital. Mums need strength and sustenance to adequately care for their little ones not to be separated and told to leave the hospital or go home at this stressful time for food. Let's urge NHS trusts across the UK to treat all mothers with fairness and compassion, ensuring they receive the nutrition and support essential during these challenging times.
Please join me in calling for this vital change. Sign this petition to demand that hospitals provide meals for all mothers with babies in hospital care, regardless of how they choose to feed their child this really truly matters to me and is very close to my heart I want to take this further and show that all mums or potentially dads who are formula feeding in these difficult times are looked after too we are all equal however we choose to feed our little ones please help me bring awareness to this matter.
