The Issue
I have watched our country, India, go through many ups and downs, and I've often questioned the motivations of those who vie for leadership positions. It seems evident to me that leadership should not be just a title or a position of power but rather a responsibility and a privilege that must be earned through service and dedication to the country.
The political hierarchy in India has long been a topic of debate and concern. Many of us desire leaders who truly understand the essence of our nation, its diverse culture, and its people's struggles. This understanding can only come from firsthand experience, from serving at the grassroots level, and from helping uplift those who are most in need.
Becoming a national leader is a significant responsibility. Those who seek to lead must first prove their commitment by serving the nation selflessly. We need to establish a system where political aspirants must have a minimum number of years of service in community service, government welfare associations, or other relevant areas before they can run for office. This system will ensure that future leaders have genuine empathy and understanding of what India needs.
Statistics show a growing disconnection between the political class and ordinary citizens in our country. A 2020 survey by the Pew Research Center highlighted that 67% of Indians feel that their voices are not heard by the politicians.
