My 7-year-old son, Jax, has been waiting an incredibly long time for an ADHD and Autism assessment. The funding for these assessments was originally planned to be available until April 2026, but has now been delayed further to April 2027. To hear that assessments are not expected to resume until then, and only a limited number of new referrals who meet high-priority thresholds are being accepted, is disheartening.

This delay affects not only Jax but countless other children who are relying on timely assessments to get the support they desperately need. Early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for children with ADHD and Autism. Without assessments, these children are deprived of essential support services which can make a significant difference in their educational and social development.

According to the National Health Service, early intervention leads to improved outcomes in educational attainment, social skills, and overall life satisfaction. Delaying assessments for a year or more can set children back significantly, leaving them without the support that could change their lives for the better.

We call upon the government and NHS authorities to prioritize funding for ADHD and Autism assessments for children under the right to choose pathway. It's imperative that we allocate the necessary resources to reopen these assessments as soon as possible and prevent further delays.
