Ensure free internet access for Lebanese students

Ensure free internet access for Lebanese students
The Issue
Education is not a luxury — it's a right! As the world faces unprecedented challenges, Lebanese students are heavily impacted by the ongoing war period affecting every aspect of their lives, including their right to education. Access to education should not be hindered by the lack of internet connectivity. Unfortunately, in Lebanon, many students struggle to access their online classes, research resources, and educational materials due to costly internet services.
The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated this issue, shifting the educational paradigm towards online learning, a mode that remains inaccessible to numerous Lebanese students due to high internet expenses. According to a UNICEF report, approximately 67% of children in Lebanon are not receiving the quality education they deserve due to financial constraints.
Free internet access is crucial to ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to learn, thrive, and succeed, regardless of their socio-economic background. It’s imperative that we take action now to support Lebanese students by providing them with free internet access during these turbulent times.
This is an appeal to the Lebanese government, ISPs, and international organizations to collaborate and create a sustainable solution that offers free or affordable internet for all students in Lebanon. Implementing internet access points in public areas, providing subsidies for internet services, or partnerships with tech companies to expand coverage could be pivotal solutions.
By signing this petition, you are joining a movement to emphasize the importance of education as a foundational right. Too many Lebanese students are being left behind. We must act swiftly to change their narrative and ensure the future of Lebanon is brighter through educated leaders of tomorrow. Please support Lebanese students in their claim for free and fair education. Sign this petition to ensure every child in Lebanon has the right to learn without limitations.
