Ensure four water bubblers at Ashfield Reserve
The issue
I am a local resident of our beloved community, and I meet many fellow residents daily at Ashfield Reserve. We've been facing a significant inconvenience due to the absence of adequate water facilities. The reserve is a popular spot where over 300 people gather every Saturday and Sunday to enjoy various sports across five designated areas. However, the issue we face is the persistent lack of water infrastructure, which not only inconveniences the community but also contributes to environmental concerns.
Currently, we are contending with an increasing accumulation of plastic waste, particularly lids and containers that visitors leave behind. This is in stark contrast to our town's admirable no plastics event policy. Previously, there was at least one broken water bubbler that resourceful locals tried to adapt into a water source by fashioning a makeshift spout to fill plastic buckets for their dogs. However, even this temporary solution is no longer available as the fixture has been removed.
Moreover, each day more than 30 dogs, accompanied by their owners, frequent the reserve, hoping to find water but are disappointed due to the unavailability of functioning water bubblers. This not only affects the well-being of our furry friends but also discourages community interactions and gatherings, which have always been the heart of Ashfield community life.
We propose the installation of four new water bubblers at Ashfield Reserve as a practical and environmentally responsible solution. These bubblers will not only provide much-needed hydration for both people and pets but also significantly reduce our reliance on single-use plastics. By doing so, we can enhance our community's experience while staying true to our town's commitment to reducing plastic waste.
We urge the local council and relevant authorities to address this issue promptly and ensure that Ashfield Reserve remains a welcoming and environmentally friendly area for all.
Please support this essential cause by signing the petition. Together, we can foster a healthier and more sustainable community environment.
