The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, parents, players, and members of the Margate soccer community, respectfully ask the City of Margate Commission to ensure that any decision regarding the future of competitive youth soccer on City-owned fields is made through a fair, transparent, and community-focused process.

We support the City exploring opportunities to strengthen youth soccer in Margate, including partnerships that can bring additional investment, scholarships, player development, quality coaching, tournaments, and expanded opportunities for our children. However, a decision with long-term implications for Margate families and the use of public recreational facilities deserves careful consideration and meaningful community input.

We respectfully ask the City Commission to:
- Not proceed with the current unsolicited proposal from Fort Lauderdale United as the basis for selecting Margate's future soccer partner.
- Preserve access for the organizations and families currently using Margate's soccer facilities while the City determines the best long-term approach.
- If the City wishes to establish a formal partnership for competitive youth soccer, develop a transparent and competitive process based on criteria established by the City and the needs of Margate residents, allowing qualified organizations an opportunity to present what they can offer the community.
- Ensure that any future partnership prioritizes Margate residents, affordability, scholarships, player development, quality coaching, responsible investment in City facilities, and accountability to the community.

We believe Margate can build an even stronger youth soccer program while ensuring that the process used to select any future partner is fair, competitive, and focused on what provides the greatest long-term benefit to Margate's children and families.

Margate families deserve a voice in the future of youth soccer in their community.
