The Issue

Wylde Green, like much of Sutton suffered during the recent snow fall where key roads used by residents became particularly treacherous, posing significant risks to motorists, especially the elderly and those with mobility challenges. Despite repeated calls by Cllr Alex Yip for extra Grit Bins and for the inclusion of certain roads onto the list of roads that are attended to, the existing provision by Birmingham City Council for road gritting and grit bins across Wylde Green we feel are insufficient to ensure the safety and accessibility of the area during snowfalls.

We call upon Birmingham City Council to add key steep and well used roads onto the list of roads that are gritted- including Pilkington Avenue- oen of the steepest roads in Sutton Coldfield- as well as Brooks, Kempson, Green Lanes (a 'Blue Route' for emergency vehicles), and Holifast Road. We are also calling for additional grit bins to be deployed at critical points across the ward including near primary schools and certain junctions. By doing so, we can enhance road safety during winter, prevent accidents, and ensure our community remains connected and accessible.

Sign this petition to urge Council to do what is right and increase the safety of our roads during times of extreeme weather.
