Ensure Equitable Media Coverage for All WNBA Players

Ensure Equitable Media Coverage for All WNBA Players
The Issue
As a family, we discovered the joy of watching college women's basketball. We fell in love with the game and its players, especially Angel Reese. Our living room became our private stadium where we cheered on our favorites, wearing their jerseys as a symbol of our support. This newfound tradition has brought us closer together and instilled in us a deep respect for these athletes.
However, it has come to our attention that not all players receive equal media coverage. Talented players like Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoza have massive fan bases yet are often overlooked by mainstream media outlets. Their games aren't aired as frequently on TV as they should be. Over 200,000 people live streamed the Chicago SKY preseason game that should tell you: THE PEOPLE want to see them play!
The Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) needs to adopt an equitable approach to promotion so that all audiences can enjoy their favorite players' performances. The lack of equal representation is not only unfair to these athletes but also deprives fans of the opportunity to follow their careers closely.
According to Nielsen ratings data from 2020, viewership for women’s sports has increased by 325% over the past year (source: Nielsen). This demonstrates a growing interest in women's sports which should be met with proportional media coverage.
We urge the WNBA and television networks alike to ensure fair representation across all platforms so that every player gets her time under the spotlight she deserves. Sign this petition if you believe in equitable media coverage for all WNBA players!
