Last week, I watched as my teammates tripped over one another, simply trying to change for practice. It's not just an inconvenience—it's a matter of respect, equality, and safety. Our female sports teams are packed into one small locker room, while the football team enjoys the luxury of two large lockers with ample space. This clear disparity sends a message—that our sports aren't valued equally.

This issue highlights a broader problem of inequality in sports facilities at our school, where female athletes are regularly provided with substandard resources compared to their male counterparts. According to the National Women’s Law Center, schools are federally required to provide fair treatment, benefits, and opportunities to all students participating in sports. Yet, what we are facing now is far from fair.

Our school's athletic department must address this discrepancy to create an environment that encourages all students equally, regardless of their sport or gender. By reallocating the resources and ensuring that locker rooms accommodate all athletes comfortably, we can foster a more inclusive and motivational atmosphere.

Several solutions are possible. One option is to renovate and expand the current facilities, which would benefit not just the girls’ teams, but all teams who suffer from overcrowding. Alternatively, the school could establish a rotating schedule for locker room usage to fairly distribute available space among all sports, ensuring no team is disadvantaged.
