Ensure Equal Access to NHS Equipment & Services for Co-Parenting Families Across Counties

Ensure Equal Access to NHS Equipment & Services for Co-Parenting Families Across Counties
The Issue
My son, has a rare genetic condition called Phelan Mcdermid Syndrome. This affects his mobility due to severe hypotonia, he has global developmental delay and is non-verbal as well as intellectual disability. He relies on specialist equipment to get around safely at home and outdoors. This is the case for many others across the UK also . Currently, NHS equipment is funded for one address and not the other co-parent. This isn't fair and we want to change this.
The current policy of providing NHS-funded equipment only at one co-parent's address puts an undue burden on families trying their best to care for their children with additional needs. It restricts mobility and limits opportunities for these children to spend quality time with both parents in a safe environment.
According to Contact.org.uk, there are approximately 800,000 disabled children in the UK under the age of 16 which equates to 1 in every 20 children (Contact.org.uk). Many of these families are co-parenting or single parent households that could benefit from having access to necessary medical equipment at multiple locations.
We believe that all parents should be able to provide equal care regardless of location within the UK. We call upon the National Health Service (NHS) authorities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland - please revise your policies so that all necessary medical equipment can be provided at more than one address if required by co-parenting families.
We need your help! Please sign this petition today so we can ensure our loved ones receive equal care no matter where they are staying within our great nation.
