Ensure All Public Transportation Buses in Québec are Wheelchair Accessible

Ensure All Public Transportation Buses in Québec are Wheelchair Accessible
Le problème
Everyday, I, like countless disabled people, face numerous mobility challenges that affect our quality of life. I have always prided myself on being independent, enjoying the freedom and autonomy being able to get around provides. Yet, I find this independence compromised because most public transportation buses in Québec, QC, Canada aren't wheelchair accessible.
This issue extends beyond my personal experience. According to a 2017 survey by Statistics Canada, approximately 22% of the Canadian population above the age of 15 - that's one in five people - reported having one or more disabilities. With a significant portion of physically disabled people relying on public transportation for their commuting needs, they are left stranded due to the lack of facilities that accommodate wheelchairs.
It is disheartening that the city's public transportation system does not fully accommodate the needs of all its citizens. It not only limits our mobility but also hampers our ability to contribute fully to society. This lack of wheelchair accessibility restricts us from engaging in social, recreational, and occupational activities alike.
In a time where equal access and fairness are of utmost importance, it's time for the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) to make all public transportation buses wheelchair accessible. Making all public transportation buses fully accessible is not just about complying with the law; it's about respecting the rights and dignity of all citizens.
It's time to change for the better. It's time to ensure all our citizens, regardless of their physical capabilities, are provided with equal opportunities to be independent and active contributors to society. By signing this petition, you play an integral role in advocating for a more inclusive and fair public transportation system. Let's ensure all public transportation buses in Québec, QC, Canada are wheelchair accessible. Your signature can make a world of difference.
