Ensure Age-Appropriate School Curriculum's Free From Unacceptable Content in SA schools!

The Issue

As a student currently in the educational system, I am deeply concerned about the information being presented to us through school curriculum's. Presenting materials such as drug usage and disrespectful behavior can negatively affect the development of young minds, and I believe that we students, despite our age, should not be sensationalizing such actions through our textbooks.

Many peers of mine feel the same way—we are forced to take on material that contains references to drug usage and disrespectful behavior, which is not what we believe to be part of a healthy, broad education.

The school curriculum should be safeguarding rather than corrupting us, the students. They should be promoting values such as respect and accountability, not the opposite. Every student deserves a nurturing, fitting educational environment devoid of inappropriate content

No children should have to read any inappropriate content or content that they are not comfortable with and have to receive punishment if the work is not complete. It is not right!

For homework I had to read this short story by a man named Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah. This short story named "The Era" is absolutely terrible. The first 3 sentences have profanity and teach children to be disrespectful to your peers and teachers. Later it talks about deformities in children and how they joke on them and view them as ugly when that was how they were birthed. Furthermore, the children do drugs to make them feel good. Is this what we want other children to learn!

You should sign this petition for an education system that respects the age and maturity of its students, offering them resources that will foster their growth rather than hinder it. Join in on this petition to demand that destructive elements be removed from our school curriculum. Sign the petition today.
