Growing up in the beautiful region of Deer Lake, one couldn't help but appreciate the serenity and strategic importance of the railway system.  However, as residents of this area, we are facing a significant challenge. There is currently no way to make the critical connection from Deer Lake to Howley along the railway system when the gates are open for controlled water releases from Grand Lake. This access is vital for several reasons, including its importance to tourism, local businesses, and as a crucial emergency evacuation route for the residents of Howley and Deer Lake.

The route along the top of the dam is not just a scenic path; it is a lifeline, especially during emergencies. Yet, when water releases are controlled, this essential passage becomes inaccessible to All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) and Side by Sides (SxS). Imagine the chaos and danger if residents were unable to quickly evacuate due to challenging conditions or if businesses lost opportunities due to lack of access.

Tourism in our region heavily depends on the accessibility of the majestic views and unique landscapes that the dam area provides. Many tourists come to experience the thrill of exploring these natural wonders and traverse the railway system. If access continues to be restricted, the repercussions will be felt across our local economy.

We can mitigate these negative impacts with a feasible solution that allows ATV and SxS traffic to access the top of the dam during any controlled water release from Grand Lake. By coordinating with local authorities, we can establish a temporary but regulated pathway that ensures safety while maintaining access.
