Ensure 5% NIHR Funding is allocated to Menopause Research

The Issue

Menopause affects every person born female if they live long enough and it can have a severe impact on our quality of life, ability to work and our relationships. Depression, anxiety, brain fog, increased UTIs and enduring painful sex are just some of the myriad of symptoms.

And then there are the ones that you can't see that can affect our bones, brain, bladders, heart, intimate health and our long-term health.

Despite this, the amount of research into menopause is sadly very low. The government allocated funding each year to the National Institute or Health and Care Research (NIHR). Since 1993 it has funded 8918 studies but just 33 of them, or 0.37% have been on menopause. In actual spending it has been allocated around 0.3% of NIHR funding.

Women may live slightly longer than men but we spend 25% more of our lives in poor health.  To rectify this we need more research. We need to know why women are affected in different ways, what works best in terms or treatments and prevention.

This vital research into menopause could help us reduce our risk of heart disease, metabolic disorders, dementia & osteoporosis.

Please sign for a better, healthier future.
