We are a group of concerned parents and community members from Greta, NSW. Our children are looking forward to their year 5/6 school camp in Canberra in 2024. However, we have recently learned that our school may be the only one in NSW not planning to attend this educational trip.

The Canberra school camp is a tradition for year 5/6 students across New South Wales. It provides an invaluable opportunity for our children to learn about Australia's history, culture and government firsthand. The Australian Government even recognises the importance of these trips by offering the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program which provides some financial assistance towards these camps.

However, despite this support and tradition, our children may miss out on this important educational experience. This is deeply personal to us because we believe that every child deserves equal access to educational opportunities such as this one.

We call upon the relevant authorities at both local and state level to ensure that all year 5/6 students from Greta get their chance to go on their Canberra school camp in 2024 just like their peers across New South Wales will be doing.
