We, the undersigned, are calling on our 44th Ward Alderman, Bennet Lawson; 46th Ward Alderman, Angela Clay; the Chicago Police Department 19th District Commander, Amin Jessani; and Cook County State's Attorney, Eileen O'Neill Burke, to finally protect the citizens of Lakeview by taking action against Willie Wright and Leon Jackson.  We seek remedy in a correspondence being initiated with the Cook County’s prosecutors office to thoroughly consider the seriousness and danger of the following offenses in ensuring that any subsequent judicial punishment is adequately proportional to the intensity of the felony offenses. 

We are asking you to do three things: stop releasing Willie Wright and Leon Jackson back onto our streets, use every tool available to keep them detained, and meet with Lakeview residents to discuss what accountability looks like for serial violent offenders.

In 2019, Willie was banished from Andersonville (1), only to terrorize our neighborhood instead. It is clear that banishment is not enough to keep the citizens of Chicago safe from these repeat violent offenders. Willie and Leon have terrorized the streets of Lakeview for years, and despite numerous calls to CPD, nothing has been done. They are arrested and released within hours, free to terrorize the streets again and again. 

Both men are known to wander the community up and down Broadway, punching women in the head, then running away, as well as screaming at small children. They have been arrested for everything from public indecency/sex conduct, to assaulting police officers, to assault with a deadly weapon, and battery - yet still roam free on our streets - Is this acceptable to you? 

Chicago Police have been called time and time again - but nothing is ever done.  Multiple posts on Facebook, TikTok, and Block Club Chicago (2) have gone viral, highlighting the list of crimes for which these two have been arrested. 

Chicago has a reputation for being a dangerous city - a reputation I vehemently refute when faced with it. However, when these serial offenders are regularly released back out onto our beautiful streets, it makes it harder and harder to defend.
