Enhancing End of NFL Seasons by Enhancing Entertainment- Draft Bowl..

Enhancing End of NFL Seasons by Enhancing Entertainment- Draft Bowl..
The Issue
This is a NFL game plan to introduce a new way to order top draft picks which is genius but not put together so well so it’s more of a outline of a plan, maybe if people do read it , sign it, we can one day enjoy football even more then we do now! Who knows if it’s good enough the NFL might use this as an outline someday!
I briefly summarize below so you don’t have to read the entire thing to determine if you’re interested or not.
What this article is about and answers designed to briefly describe what the plan is for:
The Who: the NFL, NFLPA, players, coaches, fans who enjoy football, draft experts, and basically anyone who follows this sport or follows the league.
The Why: To enhance the league for fans while creating double playoff type situations which should increase revenue for the NFL and 14 teams each year to playoff effects depending on your teams situation AND tournament standings while maintaining competitive competition mainly using regular season results and draft ordering to add more elements while maintaining the importance of the playoffs and SuperBowl. Adds more games for teams designated for leave to add enhanced fan engagement and new tactics for teams that do not make it to post season.
The When: As soon as possible as mutiple benefits with not many known obvious downsides.
The What: DraftBowl - the loser’s playoff style tournament to determine first 14 picks while designed for full competitive competition, while maintaining the original drafts concept to help maintain competitive advantage for teams that are currently worse in the season, while actively designed to discourage tanking seasons as DraftBowl eliminates predictable draft order until basically the Super Bowl with regular season impact and new elements..
Keep reading if you want! I just get into little details describing how it will work and benefits I see coming from it, I’m no expert however just speaking as a fan that would love to see this take place.
How to increase entertainment to match SuperBowl standards creating revenue and entertainment that does not decrease importance of Super Bowl while creating an equally competitive profitable standards that the Super Bowl generates?
Think two games with closely matched viewership/profitability/competitive standards the SuperBowl already holds while not diminishing SuperBowl importance and enhancing the league as a whole ?
The answer to that question is to create the DraftBowl tournament!
Basically is a tournament for top draft positioning instead of using our current method. It is a long read but could be very exciting if it became a reality. Below I describe the idea in more details and reasons for why, how and what.
Teams that have the lowest rankings in AFC and NFC which we will call
the bottom 7 of each conference will each play each other in a playoff type tournament with the winners moving on until the DraftBowl championship which would grant the winners the number one pick.. All games could be played concurrently to the playoff tournament for the SuperBowl. Such as DraftBowl games played earlier in the week while playoff games are played later in the week. The winners of each tournament could play same day or DraftBowl championship could play the day before so the SuperBowl remains its importance as being the best of the best of the business!
How to achieve the competitiveness of losing teams competing and keep the competitive advantage to the worse teams instead of granting first pick?
First propose a rule that bans trading first round picks while leaving 2nd round and beyond tradeable.
This will allow the DraftBowl the best chance to show importance while maintaining competitive performance due to each team playing for positioning of the draft and matters since it will be a untradeable round and tournament will decide top 1-14 picks that are essentially valuable picks, while making it a more intriguing way to figuring out Draft positioning until the end of DraftBowl which would basically be the day before SuperBowl or day of such as day time game be the DraftBowl championship and Super Bowl player in the evening. Okay so using this logic the worse teams would lose right away and receive pick 14-13 since technically they lost first in the loser tournament they are the worse and will receive two additional picks at the end of the first round to help the worse teams be more competitive.. The tournament would then move on with losers receiving the next pick to all the way to pick 1.. While the top teams receive the first picks, since they are technically closer to middle of pack in the league they might not necessarily need a QB but might need a elite WR or OT or whatever position they need to get them over the middle of the league jump…
Players will play hard trying to improve their team while showing their GM that they are worthy staying on the team by winning that GM the first pick.. Which means the order and draft direction will be completely random until DraftBowl tournament is settled.. As the season is over and these teams missed the playoffs it’s their last chance to show their team how valuable they are and winning this tournament is beneficial and not pointless.
No more teams will want to tank their season or tournament since being the worse won’t give you the first pick, but it still maintains competitive advantage by receiving the extra pick before round 2 which would be pick 33-34? Allowing the worse teams to select two players in the top 50 while letting middle of the league teams (winners of DraftBowl) get the player of their choice instead of being stuck in the middle of the league and potentially losing their best option now it will make the winners a competitive advantage to take them over the top rather then losing their guy because they are closer to middle of the league team. It should make every team compete as losing drops your draft stock while winning guarantees the player of your choice no more middle draftees having to settle for their second options because another team played worse now all the bottom teams have the chance to dramatically control their destiny in the next season by winning not losing.
This allows more entertaining drafts and unpredictable drafts while maintaining the competitive factor to the bottom teams.. It will allow fans more meaningful games outside of playoff teams once the regular season ends which doubles playoff games without watering down the regular season (think adding additional teams to playoffs just to create more profitable games fans do not want that because now its takes meaning out of regular season) Now you can double the playoffs by adding a sister tournament and profits raise while also enhancing regular season results leaving tanking teams no advantage of tanking regular season just for number one pick.
It will make the draft more unpredictable and more exciting since the top picks won’t always be the top QB since DraftBowl winners 1-5 might have their QBs already instead of the worse teams always picking top QB with the top picks…
You could leave the teams outside of bottom 14 and outside of playoffs the regular order system along with playoff draft order system… or let all teams play in the DraftBowl outside of playoff teams… This will hopefully make the league more impressive since teams that won the DraftBowl might get their guy that helps them make the playoffs next year essentially making the DraftBowl winners different every time or even it takes a season or two the picking first will give them the advantage to hopefully move out of DraftBowl tournament leaving new winners frequently depending on who ends up in the bottom 7 of each conference.. which is like the playoffs with this system it could provide unpredictable outcomes depending on who is the bottom 14 and how well they play.. This will add meaningful games while letting fans that don’t have their team in the playoffs a chance to cheer even in the bad performing seasons since games will be important draft positioning while players play their hardest to win their team ownership the first pick giving them another chance to prove they belong, think QB who is on the fence of being released or signed again, if they perform amazing and win their GM a first pick it might be the difference of being replaced or even being signed by another team with a great showing in the DraftBowl tournament.
So you double the games without watering down playoffs and superbowl while making the case to the NFLPA of increased revenue for more teams while stating that the best play more games creating this DraftBowl will even the work as the worse and the best players will essentially have more equal games played which is essentially fair considering the best players (teams) are forced to play more games while the worse players (team) get a longer vacation for not performing as well.. Now more of the workforce (players) will have a more fair and equal workload for everyone (except players who team miss playoffs and DraftBowl, however the workforce already have this unfair work share, this will make it a little more fair for the successful and non-successful player teams rather then what it is now.. One could even make a case to play all DraftBowl games before the playoffs entirely to allow winning teams extra rest to play at their full potential for an increased entertainment factor as playoffs teams will be playing healthier creating safer playoff games while enhancing the entertainment value as teams will play better the healthier they are truly making the playoffs best of the best type of tournament.
Either way adding a DraftBowl will add elements to the already entertaining draft while leaving no true advantage of playing poorly for draft purposes as DraftBowl will not let the team who tanks the first most valuable pick, and make even the losing teams a reason to play good after the regular season ends which enhances gameplay, entertainment and revenue as you will be essentially creating two playoffs both meaningful in their own way as one is for the future and the other is to be the best. With both offering that uncertainty unpredictable outcomes while maintaining their own importance and increase fan viewership since nobody will truly know draft order or the drafts most likely top 10 since the middle teams who win the tournament might have different needs which only adds to what will happen on draft day! Fans get to enjoy the season longer with their favorite team even in bad years who might not be watching football anymore because before their team would just be on vacation and players didn’t have any true desires to play good during pro bowls, and essentially had little to do with anything outside of entertainment which led to its poor viewership, the DraftBowl would only enhance the league as the whole…
If you made it here thanks for reading! Please sign the petition and share as we collect signatures into the millions the NFLPA and NFL will have to discuss this and hopefully read this to see how much entertainment, profitability, and enhancing the league as a whole this could do, while keeping fans engaged who normally stop watching after their favorite team is done for the season, the championship game could potentially draw the same amount of standards the Super Bowl enjoys as playing for the first pick is equally as exciting due to the draft entertainment value which should also increase as it becomes more unpredictable making fans watch more games to start making guesses and predictions which could change completely depending on the team who wins… not being dependent on figuring out the worse team who probably takes a QB because they are the worse team as the worse team are typically teams with average to below average QBs which is not the always the case with the best middle teams who really just a fantastic CB away from the promise land.
Thank you!!
Hopefully this is a great idea even if tweaked as I would love cheering for my team longer as missing playoffs just kind of makes me sad, being able to cheer them on for a higher draft pick would make them losing regular season hurt less haha
