Last night, a dear neighbor of ours Patel, Babubhai was hit and killed by a car while attempting to cross Dacey Road, a familiar street he often traversed. Just moments before, my partner and I had to honk at a car turning left onto Dacey from Chambers, who did not see him crossing the road as we were also going to the corner store. We even held the door for him that same night.

This petition was started after his tragic accident to prevent anyone else from experiencing the loss felt from what has happened. Our prayers go out to his family. 

The thought that my partner and I were possibly one of the last to interact with him that evening is devastating. He never made it home from the store that night.

My petition calls for measures put in place to ensure people can cross Dacey Road to the Circle K on the corner of Chambers ave safely so that this may never happen again.

Ideally a Pedestrian cross walk, perhaps with buttons, so children and other pedestrians can cross to the bus stop and convience store safely.

Dacey road near terry fox is a frequent bus stopped zone and a school zone with two posted non flashing 40 zone signs that are not as visible as  they could be. This road has the entrance for white pines, where children/teens and other high pedestrian traffic circulate the area. Installing speed bumps, painting a clearly visible pedestrian crosswalk with lights would force drivers to slow down. Proper lighting and flashing signage could also further increase visibility and ensure community safety.

Let us not wait for another life to be lost. We must act now to ensure the safety of all pedestrians. What if that was your grandfather? What if it were your teen? Thank you.
